gren, someone with aphantasia, and myself, someone without aphantasia, have spent the last hour and a half frying each others brains trying to describe what its like to see/not see in your mind, how memory works for us etc. its awesome

Since I discovered that I have aphantasia, (mind blown!) my family and friends are getting tired of me talking about it. “Wait! You can SEE that in your head???”
I feel like I want to talk about it too. I see nothing and tried to explain aphantasia to my bf. He said if I tried really hard I could probably see something with my eyes closed. I can’t.
Aphantasia has always been such a strange concept to me, because I’m far on the other end, I think it’s like hyperphantasia or something where it’s all incredibly vivid and 1-to-1 to real life. I used to use it to daydream in the middle of class lmao
It’s like how Ive never heard of anyone else having a mind’s nose before, I can very weakly visualise smells but I’ve never heard of a single other person who can. It’s insane how this stuff works lol
