As much as I had wanted them to come back, there was another prevailing fear inside me-that someone was on the other side. And that used to rule my mind every day after the break up.
I've finally let go of the handle and dismantled all the locks. That fear no longer holds me but instead I sometimes look at it while I hold the door wide open.
I've realized that what mattered the most was not what was on the other side. It was me finally stepping out and setting myself free from that empty house I let myself haunt.
