I've lived in TX for 5 years and it's really interesting, so many contradictions. 45% D, 55% R seems to be about the national median right now so maybe the things you cite are in line.

Another reason is that Texas is not adding renewables because of a renewables portfolio standard but because of market conditions. This should make the free-marketers very happy. Also, I would suggest adding Jim Hightower to your starter pack. I believe he's on here--if not he should be recruited.

He's been a voice in Texas politics for many years--former editor of the Texas Observer. I worked for him when he ran for the Texas Railroad Commission in 1980. He's an implicit voice for climate in that he understands the dynamics at work in Texas energy politics.

Might I also add: Extremes of temperature resulting in high heat-related illnesses and winter storms related grid failures. A lot can be done, but that’s why we are here for. Texas can lead the country.

I just finished interviewing a Texan data center operator. Out of all the interviews I did this week, this one cared the least about #greenenergy, #decarbonization, #communityengagement 😔 “I don’t want to be politically incorrect, but in Texas, we don’t have to care about these things” was a quote.

I’d add the wrinkle that it’s an energy-only market. There’s pros and cons to that approach in electric markets but it does generally give more access to markets for new generation sources.

We (Texas) lead the nation in wind and solar energy production, yet our governor wants to follow Il Douché's lead and "drill, baby, drill." Texas is the epitome of rational dichotomy.
