Case by case detail and argument. The Syrian civil war can be traced back to rural immigration to cities following crop failure due to climate change, but its contentious of course

Like what if all the increasing impacts are already just kind of destabilizing, in ways that are at times direct (severe drought, food shortages, etc) but also sort of diffuse and hard to pin down.

Not if climate is understood as downstream from energy. Where is the funding for escalating Russian aggression without Germany first growing wholly reliant on its gas in order to supplement renewables while reducing the use of coal or nuclear?

How can we talk about the War in Iraq without talking about the between 280,771-315,190 that died from direct war related violence caused by the U.S., its allies, the Iraqi military and police, and opposition forces from the time of the invasion through March 2023? Isn’t that part of the toll?

This is an interesting question and I think the challenge is going to fall on experts reading between the lines because not until perhaps the very endgame will we get state actors to say they are fighting for resources.
