Most of the time I see people bringing up the failure of denazification, they're usually making an implicit comparison between the western- & eastern-bloc approaches to combatting fascism, with the implication being that the Soviets actually succeeded in rooting out Nazism in their territories.

Yeah, obviously a lot going on here. Nationalist resentment and economic collapse is part of it, but the different ways in which fascism manifests in Germany maps well onto several divides during the post-war period

Yes. I am just saying I think it is an oversimplification that attributes too much specifically to middle-class precarity and impoverishment and ignores persisting cultural divides and the character of the current international fascist moment

Like the differences in how west vs. east germany treated denazification, how nazis were more normalized into the liberal currents in the west while in the east you had attempts to section off and harness reactionary groups like the NDPD for economic and political revival
