I share that with you. The way he raises money and talks about it comes across that way. Honestly, he would be better off being transparent and maybe even going the Non-profit route.
Running for president was the most recent big example. But every few years he raises money on some big issue for TYT: wolf pack, tyt investigates, having members build the studio under the guise of being for the people (now sold the rights to polymarket)
I am curious as to what the big deal is with the Polymarket thing. Like, sure, it was originally funded by viewers, I get that insult. But, naming rights and whatever mean very little to me and I've never heard of Polymarket in an overly negative light.
The through line in all of this is that Cenk will go where he thinks money is when he gets desperate. I believe the decision to pivot to this common ground populism with right wingers is more about money than his actual beliefs. It’s phony to me.
That's a fair criticism, and I haven’t considered it before. I'm not sure I think you’re correct, but as a theory, it makes sense.
My rebuttal would be that the focus on populism makes sense as a strategy. In the big picture, the Right and Left hate the corruption in DC, right? Both could be true.
I agree on finding common ground on issues of agreement with voters, but I do not like the way they are going about it. They are political commentators. They are supposed to be a voice for progressive ideals. Anyways, I’m glad we can talk like this here.
It’s the way Cenk sells the brand. He is so loud about being independent and acts like it’s all about the viewers, but his actions tell a different story.
His running for president was interesting to me only because I wanted to see it challenged in court. I remember him raising money for a Washington correspondent around the same time as TYT investigates and the progressive newsletter thingy. I don't really have an issue with the rest of it.
I don’t have an issue with him running , as insane as it is, but it came across as another terrible business decision for TYT. How can you run for president while being the primary anchor and host for TYT? Had I been a TYT employee I would seriously question his judgement.
