I hate VRBO as well. These creeps basically kick the people who live and work out of their towns ruining neighborhoods. Hence the anti tourist demonstrations in Spain. There are 2 of these on my little road. Loud parties,not obeying the rules, self centered jerks!

Use Air BnB to scout the listings in the area you're checking out. Then, use the direct contact or an alternative booking site to make a cheaper booking without the AirBnB service fees.
