Irma Sánchez PhD remarks : HHMI is also a non-profit organization. Nonprofits that qualify for 501(c)(3) don't have to pay federal or state income taxes. I am guessing that the end of affirmative action has something to do with HHMIs decision.

They are targeting educational foundations as well as universities. The budget is coming in one month and the one currently floating puts a 14% tax on foundations by some formula they decide. It is an attack. They will comply, be sly, or be slaughtered.

They are floating a budget around, probably to scare people. That budget goes after Universities, particularly big ones, with endowments. I do not remember the exact numbers but something like raising taxes from 1.4 to 14%. Grad students have to pay taxes more on scholarships, other things.

Would you speak out about your source of funding before the funding ended? Unless they can do so anonymously or everyone with HHMI, NIH & other federal funding speaks out, or they are wealthy (some have trust funds), it is risky to speak out, especially with so many layoffs.

It looks like they are rewriting the descriptions to avoid the naughty list of words. Give them some time to figure it out.

The other option is that Bondi drains the endowments. We are in a cultural war against science and higher education. A proposed budget is being floated and it's devastating.
