I think some attempts have been made, but it's a little trickier because it's fundamental changes to the lighting system and VFX rather than just like new textures.

Thankfully, there have been advancements for visual effect porting. They USUALLY look fine, but sometimes have visual problems. Bonfire has always been the big one for me though.

Although the boxart is obviously labeled as GFWL, it's my understanding this should just download the current patch from Steam, which was decoupled from GFWL a long time ago.

There are some lighting changes that affect the mood of some areas, and some of the new VFX have significant differences. Probably the most infamous is the stylized gentle coiling flames of the bonfire being replaced with just regular fire.

Played this recently as I found a copy on ebay that wasn't too expensive. Latest updates removed GFWL but its pc controls are unplayably bad. Cursor isn't locked to the screen and you can click off the game mid fight if you have multiple monitors. w/ controller tho it's just DSR but locked at 30 fps

good opportunity to talk about my favorite version of DS1:
DS1 Remastered on Nintendo Switch.
It has every QOL feature of Remastered, but looks visually exactly like PtDE. Be prepared for (stable) 30 fps though!

I remembering PtDE many years ago on Steam (can't remember how long before the remaster). I've got the remastered version on my PlayStation account. Nice to have the option of both even though I don't do much PC gaming these days (ageing laptop can't handle gaming much these days).

I personally love that there are several different versions of DS1 available. even if PTDE isn't technically as polished as the remaster, it's neat that it exists if only as a little piece of history you can play
