Given the existence of the "C Button", and the general focus on multiplayer throughout the Direct, it actually makes a kind of sense that this is the game Nintendo would get FromSoftware to make. It feels like they're maybe pushing for multiplayer to be a part of the Switch 2's identity.
As I've mentioned before, Miyazaki has talked about his desire to branch out and explore other genres, so it seems like this could be him taking his shot at a (relatively) large-scale competitive co-op. How well that's actually going to play out is the big question though.
From what little we've seen, I get the impression you'll pick from Champions to play as like Nightreign. There does also seem to be an implication that you can work together to defeat bosses, not just fight each other, so it may still be somewhat possible to play it like a traditional Soulslike.
Not much point getting too mired in speculation though when we're already slated to get an interview soon that should clarify a lot of the questions the trailer left us with. FromSoftware definitely seems to be going through an experimental phase though.
The official word from FromSoftware's website is apparently:
"a PvPvE title with online multiplayer at its core, where up to 8 players vie for supremacy among themselves and against challenging foes." Which sounds like it rules out the chance they're just poorly describing regular Souls multiplayer.
Too bad, for those kind of games I like the exploration, leveling, upgrading, atmosphere, etc. If this is just a battle royale I will skip this one as well
"Play as the "Bloodsworn"; a group that has transcended human strength thanks to their special blood, and throw yourself into a violent fray for "First Blood" as the twilight of humanity approaches."
sounds like Battleroyale. i wonder how mobs & bosses work into this though
imho what is shown in the trailer + the Nightreign experimentations + the PvPvE thing in this early marketing makes me think about a souls equivalent to an extraction shooter, but we'll see soon enough !
very strange choice given it's visually very remniscent of bloodborne. Like don't get me wrong I might play it, but I thought they'd do nightreign as proof of concept and see how that did /before/ building an entire game on the idea?
i noticed that too. Nintendo of America says it's a multiplayer game. considering the gimmick of Switch 2 is 'voice chat' i guess they commissioned a multiplayer game from em.
the way the trailer shows off each playable character too also leads into it.
Damn, I don't know what has gotten into fromsoft but, in general, the people who like their games are the ones looking actively to avoid games like this. I play for the rich single player experience and now this is 2 games in a row moving away from that identity.
I hope it's not that, I pretty much only use my switch when I'm not home and I don't see that changing with the switch 2. It's a tertiary system for me anyway since there's basically no first party games I play on it other than Pokémon.
I kinda lost some of the hype because of that... but it all depends on how the final product ends like. If you think about it, every souls game is kinda of a PvPvE game because of the invasions, coop etc. Maybe they're just expanding this concept? Let's see
I'm sadly immediately way less interested than I was since I steer clear of games with a required multiplayer element. Unless I can play it completely in single player, I'm out. That and I'm not ready to shell out $450 on a new console just yet.
if i had a nickel for every time fromsoft announced a battle royale in the past year i'd have two nickels. which isn't much but it's weird that it happened twice

this has 8 player multiplayer
8/4 = 2
therefore it's Bloodborne 2
