100% the narrative in most places is dominated by people that thinks (or rather wants to be true) that cheats can be kept in check *only* server-side and whose last multiplayer game seems to have been cod 2.

I just don't run games that have literal rootkits to half-ass detect if people are cheating and don't actually stop cheating at all, regardless of OS. If that's "weird", go ahead and call me weird. I'd rather be that than whatever "normal" is. Online games aren't worth it.

steam deck is x86_64, and so are literally all windows games - and risc-v is not x86_64... you'd need another translation layer for x86_64 -> riscv to be able to run those

so I'd say it is pretty different :shrug:

x86 emulation is nothing special nowadays. Apple has it, MS has it (Windows on ARM) and box86/64 does it.
I even had it on my Amiga in the 90's.

I think it's fair to say on evidence that anyone with strong opinions about desktop operating systems is more than a little unhinged. And there's ways and ways of hiding a VM from the guest os, and spoiler alert the good ones are all on the Hypervisor.

I think they are missing the point of not playing these games. If a game is using a kernel level anticheat it tells me they aren’t actually trying. You can catch cheaters on client and server side with very basic gameplay checks mid match without access to the users files.

Kernel level AC’s are trying to detect the cheat itself when that shouldn’t be the goal really. Its much easier and more effective to detect the act of cheating.
Say someone is cheating with bullet spread, check client side then server side if the bullets are going where they should. If not, kick.

Obviously this is an oversimplification, but you can understand that these checks simply lessen the degree of cheat bringing them down to the level of smurf accnts, and at that point, why buy the cheat?
