Looking into plans for a new research project in my new job! I’m still at the ‘too many ideas stage - I hope to do some consulting with autistic people this coming year (in advance of real consultation). I hope your projects go well - they all sound fantastic.

Yes but I’m nervous to mention it yet, mostly in case I find I’m not knowledgeable enough to pursue the topic! Will have the v general aim of research that helps to change attitudes - one of autistic ppl’s priorities for research. Hopefully focused on some ‘domains’ of life I’ve got expertise in :)

That’s a good question. The main reason is that I’m interdisciplinary, and interested in *many* things, but I don’t always know how much I don’t know, in a new area. I may find this research needs too many concepts/ideas that I’m not expert in. A lot of reading will (hopefully) help me figure it out

Sometimes, it's really good to start research in an area you don't have lots of knowledge on. It lessens bias.

As a non-researcher bod, I love that you worry about not being knowledgeable. Not because I don’t think you are, but because that awareness is awesome and actually means you will really care about what you hear from the research.

projects to start next year include a qual project on visibility and communication in the ED, but mostly excited about A) some non-research advocacy work i’m doing with a school suicide prevention initiative and B) successfully negotiating 3 weeks off for a real break.

What fantastic plans! I wish you all the luck in the world. I will keep doing small things consistently on every level to support democracy. And I will keep working on maintaining my disabled adult son’s access to services that help him live his life as he chooses.

I am finishing up my master’s degree in special education and then hopefully will get a job teaching special education in the Seattle area.
