Activities damaging common good lobby to clean their image and avoid regulations. In climate crisis this lobbying has been termed greenwashing.
Washing around eel exploitation is so clear and influential that it deserves a name of its own: eelwashing

Beside (assumedly useless) stockings, eelwashing involves activities such as helping eels to overcome barriers (for either upstream or downstream movements). This benefits a ridiculous number of individuals if compared to those commercialized (see below)
