They already tried, with MOOCs. We were told we'd need only like 5 universities to produce "the best" content, the rest could shut down and everyone could learn from MOOCs instead. Which showed exactly how much they understood about education, learning, humans, and other things not measured in bits.

Reduction in state funding is a big part of it.
I'm also not sure what this is being "fair" about?
But as with everything, the hype got wayyyyyyy out of hand
Education needs context and people. The occasional beer also helps.
I think MOOCs are yet another overhyped excuse to defund education by way of not knowing what a many faceted endeavor education really is.
