Public: the company can be partially owned by several people through stocks, and a board of them call the shots on how it operates [1/2]

Going public just means that anyone can become an investor. Who they accept as investors is no longer curated.

Private investors have to broker investment deals directly with the company.

Publc investors can just buy as much stock in a company as is available to them without their direct approval.

The same argument can be made about most things. Going public doesn't mean it will be bad. There are many many publicly owned companies that are good, don't do shady behind the scenes stuff like current discord shenanigans.

You have to have faith that going public will put things right.

The poster should have clarified, but basically, going public means Discord will be owned by multiple investors rather than whoever started the company. This generally isn't good, because the investors will push more anti-consumer policies for profit.
