I talk to my friends, we play D&D, they send me a link to a discord with ROM hacks and indie games
I maybe get a virus
2026 discord:
They train their AI on my images, train their AI on my conversations, force push ads and microtransations, monetize everything
Discord has become virus
They have a FAQ answering it and other questions here:
Ain't that right, Twitter? /sarc
site is still usable id say
I fucking hate it.
thanks a lot, discord
I knew it might happen eventually, but that's been one of the best social media for so long, no ads, no intrusions, just user-modded and user-run communities!!!
Private: the company is privately owned and what it does and how it does it is decided solely by its owners.
Public: the company can be partially owned by several people through stocks, and a board of them call the shots on how it operates [1/2]
This often leads to change when a company goes public
Hell.
Thanks for explaining so well!
Some public companies have enough power that they can say no to a board's face (Capcom recently rejected their boards telling them to release monster hunter before christmas), but i don't know if Discord can
Going public just means that anyone can become an investor. Who they accept as investors is no longer curated.
Publc investors can just buy as much stock in a company as is available to them without their direct approval.
You have to have faith that going public will put things right.
"Having faith", however, on any company, private or public, is not something i would reccomend
Discord is a great, low cost option for FAQs and direct communication with the fan base.
You or I could even purchase stock and vote with our shares on major decisions.
Sony, I'm not sure how much of the company they own.
I know TeamSpeak is a popular alternative, but what are other options besides that?
