Here's how we did the desert island shot in Strawberry Mansion: I made a lil clay island, glued some sand to it and a small plastic tree, stuck it on a cork board, and then filmed it against a real sunset at the beach. Last shot is how it appears in the movie 🌴 (2/32)
Here's how we made the house in Strawberry Mansion: found a dollhouse at a thrift store for $99, painted it, put on a new roof, added a porch so it matched our location, then filmed it in the same field so the lighting matched. Last shot is how it appears in the movie 🏡 (3/32)
Here's how we made the buffalo: sculpted a large head from styrofoam and attached fake fur, then had a crew member under the fabric body, making it appear to breathe, then in post digitally enhanced the head and added some blood. Last pic is how it appears in the movie (4/32)
The caterpillar was a pipe cleaner animated by the great @samplertimes.bsky.social 🐛 The first shot of the caterpillar jumping out of the ocean is footage I shot mixed with a sunset filmed from my front porch. The other footage was stock footage we bought with some digital splashes added (5/32)
Here’s how we turned our two actors into comets: first recorded them on a green screen saying their lines, then sent @samplertimes.bsky.social the 2nd pic to show him what we envisioned, then he worked his animation magic with cotton balls, hot glue, etc and we ended up with the final pic ☄️ (6/32)
Here’s how we made the dancing skeleton: first we filmed the empty cemetery, then gave that footage to @samplertimes.bsky.social who filmed himself for reference and then animated a tiny toy skeleton, then we combined that with the original footage 💀 (7/32)
