If only politicians had listened when the police said “ongoing investigation”, “too early to comment”, “motive not yet clear” instead of rushing to “anti-semitism”, “weak leadership”, etc., then they might not look quite so stupid.
Unfortunately, Islamophobia is real and impacting Australians.
Indeed but in Australia the antisemitism gets ask the news and comments from politicians and it turns out the latest “wave” of antisemitism want real.
My point is that the Islamophobia is very real and damaging society as a whole.
Same in the UK, but less manipulated/ false flag.
our (very self important) journalists did not exactly cover themselves with glory either.
It was only after, well after the fact actually, that we found out the truth.
However the atmosphere of anti Semitism in Australia generated by the Israel/Palestine war was the engine that made it work so effectively. And Jews were correctly concerned.
Serious question Cathy, in light of the Nine mastheads taking money from Palmer and publishing bigoted ads targeting gender diverse people - how can you in good conscience keep working for them?
You’ve said you have a trans family member, your work is vital but we need allies to make a stand.
Fair question. I am at this point better placed to say what I need to say and reach a wide audience from my position as a salaried cartoonist for a major mainstream masthead.
To quit over this would silence me, not Palmer. So long as my speech is not constrained, I’m more useful there than not.
Thanks for your reply. I appreciate your stance. I do think Elligett deserves direct critique for his editorial and for running the ad. You are in a far better position than I am to eloquently clarify with him that far more eyeballs see a front page banner ad than flip thru to get to his editorial!
PS. If you ever shift your thinking toward going indie, I can assure you that your name recognition is strong enough. All you need is the right technology stack and a well defined social strategy and you would easily exceed both current audience and income. My DMs are open 😉🤓
Thanks Tess. I’m in Sydney, have not read the editorial in the Age as have been doing gym/life/dog stuff and reading other news. Will follow up now. My name recognition is not even sufficient to sell a book of cartoons. If I quit the paper I’ll probably quit the game.
I think there’s a big difference between selling a book of cartoons & distributing digital content to a committed audience. It may seem daunting but you have a very solid foundation. It might seem like a dark art but digital first direct to consumer is very doable.
They’re speaking different things here, but Albo was right behind Minns. Somewhat obliged because Minns over-egged it from the start and Albo, afraid of being taunted for being “weak”, missed the chance to urge caution on naming it before proper investigation. Dutton of course politicised it.

Ignorance & 'falling in with a certain crowd' -- of ignorant people with a vile purpose.

SOUND THE ALARM, PREPARE FOR FIRE!!
Totally fair. Albo should have said very little, but he allowed himself to be wedged by Dutton.
