It’s true. I was on retreat at a monastery in Massachusetts years ago and a group of them surrounded a car full of nuns and would not let them out for about 20 minutes! The hissing is real!
And they're big and smart. One late autumn, I watched a flock of about 30 migrating Canadian geese stop to feed at a small pond near Denver. Four sentries stood guard at peripheral posts as the flock grazed then were relieved by others every 15 mins or so. Canadians that had each other's backs.

(Had a friend who had a huge flock on her farm. They are better than watchdogs. She's the one who told me the secret of scaring them).
