Australia’s main opposition group will commit an initial A$3 billion ($1.9 billion) for about 28 new Lockheed Martin Corp. F-35 fighter jets if it wins power in what are set to be tight elections due by mid-May.

How can a country even consider buying military equipment that the clowns in the white house can turn off if you try to defend yourself from Trumps friends Russia, China North Korea
We will never learn, bad enough we already own F35’s but to buy more is the definition of insanity. These jets are full of proprietary software systems that we have no access to, totally beholden to Lockheed Martin and US Defence Dept.
Which, of course, Lockheed will use to help sell the F-46 or whatever the next model is, as they have with every model before.
We are in an arms race with ourselves, and defense contractor jobs are among the least productive from a dollar-to-job perspective among any government contract.
Don’t buy American products! How do you know that they won’t sell you necessary parts if they think of Australia as another enemy!
Buy from the European’s!
You are correct, however that’s not Dutton, that’s Morrison. He’s an old PM. Dutton and rhinehart however, have kissed the ring and that’s why we need to keep him out of the PM job.
Save your money buy something with a better track record. Maybe something that spends more time in the air than on the ground. Ya know something more affordable and usable. It's not exactly known for its serviceable nature and ease of use much lost cost effectiveness. Anywho
Why would Australia buy US fighter jets which will be made inoperable in case of a China attacks as allies are not supposed to protect themselves against stronger opponents?!?!??
Bad idea. USA cannot be trusted. We need a Plan B. Time to rethink our strategic alliances. Closer ties with Europe and friendly nations in South-East Asia. We should never have gone with Aukus, but should have stayed with the French option. The Conservative opposition got us into this mess.
I have no issues with fighter however at this stage I think that money would be better spent investing further in onshore military manufacturing capacity as we are still woefully exposed to global supply and other factors. Further investment in local innovation wouldn't go astray either.
