I have a lot of thoughts with this comic. It was influenced by new sonic media over the years like sonic boom, frontiers, and the IDW comics as well as some BumbleKast convos and general fan reactions
I've been thinking a lot about how a lot of Amy’s character traits feel toned down including her feelings for Sonic while Sonic himself seems more smitten and almost regrettul at times regarding her.
From Amy's perspective she must be feeling like she's done a lot of self reflection and growth in effort to become a "better" version of herself.
And here comes Sonic who wants her to stay in love with him even if that means being a "worse" version of herself.
Sonic is someone who helps even if it doesn't look heroic so, Sonic's words may seem self serving but he knows her. He can tell she's holding back. If Sonic is someone who loves freedom I think he would encourage Amy to freely express her feelings even if it makes her "worse"
I know the irl reasons for the change in her character and I know a lot of people see this as character growth but, to me it always looked like repression.
To be fair, Amy was always larger than life so honestly anything less than that would look subdued in comparison
