There are two levels ($1M or $500k/yr) and these are aimed at top-of-the-field, globally renowned researchers. So if you work on mountain systems, cryosphere, glaciers, water, consider applying. I'm not interested in arguing about whether $1M per year on a single prof is good bang for the buck.

The brain drains isn’t as bad as people make out.

The issue with parachuting a superstar into the faculty structure is that it often “costs” multiple junior slots to be able to finance it. The faculty actually shrinks in the short term.

Which affects succession plans.
