It does, it's a federation and operates in a similar manner to the UN. It allows us to create a set of policies and create a common voice. However the AANR chose to leave and as such I beleive the US has no representation there.
AANR still works with the INF even though they are not part of it. They have a friendly relationship. I expect even more now with @truebluenude.bsky.social at the helm working with @cdnmoustache.bsky.social
Well, it seems you'd answered an hour ago a question I just posted! 🙂
After frustration w/ the cycle of misappropriation of the term "naturism" by porn posters and the anger directed back at them by naturists, I'm hoping we can strengthen the naturism brand, starting w/ a single, global definition.
At the last INF world congress, it was agreed that the draft statement of naturist values required more work and that a small working group was appointed to improve it. It is hoped that agreement in writing with the member federations can be achieved so it can be adopted sooner rather than later.
I'm happy to learn this. It's very common to hear different naturist advocates use the term slightly differently, and/or equate it with nudism. If progress is to be made, I believe "naturism"--with its unique values--needs to be distinguished from generic nudism. cc: @worldnaturism.bsky.social
Unfortunately, we can't stop it. Those who use it to market their sexual side don't see anything wrong with it. Capitalism at its finest. There are also groups that firmly believe naturism is dated and needs to accept a more sexual side in order to attract new people and the younger generations. 1/2
Indeed, naturists' efforts to correct / educate have fallen on deaf ears for decades. Every day I see this failed strategy recurring. I'm not suggesting we can stop them. But holding onto both "nudism" and "naturism" is fruitless. Better to bulk up the branding on "naturism" and let go of "nudism."
This explains why, as an American nudist, the INF has rarely been on my radar.
Do you know why AANR (@aanr-social.bsky.social) left?
@truebluenude.bsky.social If AANR were to rejoin or partner with the INF, it would make it much easier to achieve a global consensus for a definition of naturism.
AANR left the INF a number of years ago due to the instability of the INF at that time. At the World Congress held in 2024 at Zipolite there was a vote to allow AANR back into the INF using an "opt-in" program; not all AANR members would have to join. Our request to join did not garner enough votes.
If I understand the vote, well, that's a shame. Even so, would you not expect the two organizations to be open to forming a temporary joint committee to establish a uniform definition of naturism? Even easier, could AANR not simply adopt INF's definition so that branding could be developed?
