Oh my gosh, I feel called out by all of these. Most of my friends are autistic (diagnosed) and they all tell me I need to get tested as they're positive I got the tism. Maybe I really should get tested. lol

Idk if anyone gets tbjs but paper towels. Like certain kinds. They make my skin crawl. AND CERTAIN CARDBOARD AEUGH. Don't get me STARTED on cold oil either. Esp when it slightly congeals. Uuuugh hh.

I was lucky my eating issues were very light. Was also a PBnJ kid, but my mom liked it because she got away with never having to ask me what I wanted for my school lunches.

I started instinctively replying "hm?" To pretend I didn't hear while I stall for time. Doesn't work for the times I go completely nonverbal and get yelled at anyway, but it helps.

I huh/hm?'ed too! specifically my dad would get angry that I'd do that and THEN answer him before he'd had a chance to repeat himself.

what makes it even funnier is I was nonverbal/delayed dev when I was VERY young and they'd gotten me checked for tism, but 80s when you had to be FULL to qual.

Tbh a lot of people have a bad habit of talking before they have your attention, and still expecting you to get the message. If you ask them to repeat, they repeat the last part instead of the intro you didn't catch.

I really relate to the overstimulation. I have had it a lot in public places where there is too many people, too much noise and a weird type of light colour and it all culminates in me having to just shut off for a lil bit to recompose myself.

And I love saying favourite quotes to myself.

I feel like I have a mild version of most of these. I'll rewatch videos and reread books repeatedly, I'll eat the same food until I'm sick of it, I've listened to a lot of the same songs/artists since high school...

I've always struggled with looking at people when they talk, it makes conversations just rough when I prefer looking at even a wall over other people's faces or body language.

Yes, this is totally me, but on the mild version of it, though now. But when I was a child, I definitely experienced these mannerisms, especially the animal one, and watching the same thing over and over again.
