Marvellous novel. The third book I reviewed in my whole career, I think - which means that somewhere, in a cardboard box deep in a storage unit, I must have a hardback first ed.
Sort of put me in mind of this by Osbert Lancaster, from his autobiography With An Eye To The Future which I highly recommend for numerous reasons, all of which I am happy to elaborate on.
And to round off this morning's illustrations thread. Mervyn Peake's Snow White, from Grimm's Household Tales (Eyre & Spottiswoode 1946) bequeathed to me by my neighbour the late Robert Priestley, antiquarian of distinction. Looks like Fuchsia doesn't she?
