I've wanted a Japanese edition to come out for ages, but the timing / publisher / translator has never been right. Now it is. Imai Eichi did an incredible job with the translation, and BOOKNERD is an ideal publisher. The size is nice and compact, but beautifully printed, with new photos and epilogue

I'm most excited to have conversations in Japanese with Japan about the book — about the changing shape and face of the countryside here as the population ages and industries shift away, about that's being lost as a generation passes, and how we should think about the next fifty years.

It's been interesting to see how far and wide of an audience this book has found in English (we're about to do a 6th printing next spring), and I hope it finds the same kind of adoration in Japanese. It's a fun book — truly — and the translation captures my voice and vibe perfectly.
