I really enjoy Gordon Ramsay, which is why it's a shame I haven't been able to watch a lot of his American shows (Kitchen Nightmares and Hotel Hell particularly). The UK version of Kitchen Nightmares was a lot better about finding a variety of struggling businesses with various problems. Bad prioritization, not understanding how to appeal to their market, menu too big to keep up with, and sure, sometimes ego.

American version of the show, the problem with the business is almost always the one element that can't be changed: the boss is a terrible fucking human being.

I suspect this is probably the leading cause of bad businesses in general (shit management), so I guess it's nice the show reflects that, but like-- these are mean, awful people. They SHOULD fail.

I think I'd like the format better if the average episode were Gordon showing up, trying the food, meeting the owner, watching him throw a tantrum, telling him why he's a dumb asshole, and then leaving. You could fit in about 3 of those per ep. Give the salvageable restaurants a full ep.

Gordon comes to your failing business and either renovates the dining room and menu, OR pays for your wife's divorce lawyer. I'd watch that.

I mean if it makes you feel better in that regard, a lot and I mean A LOT of the restaurants featured on the show end up closing or selling to other people afterwards.
