Bathroom bills are designed to erase is from public life. Lots of trans folks will just not use the restroom instead of risking codified harassment which limits how much we can be in public. It wasn’t just about restrooms in the 60s either.

They are making an example of Rep McBride to show that no matter what station individual trans people earn, they will still be discriminated against and dehumanized. We cannot simply accept this and shrug it off.

Ok but you can't fight literally every fight? I think it's kinda insane to attack a (the...) trans legislator for not fighting some particular battle. She's not ceding trans rights, she's ceding this one issue as a symbolic thing. And she's affected by it, ofc -- I guess she's just dumb? A traitor?

And yes, no one here is affected by it -- surprisingly, very few of us live in the capitol building. There's so much worse happening to the trans community *right now* all across the country. We're really going to write off an oppressed legislator because we don't 100% agree with her strategy?

It IS a distraction in the sense the right distracts their base with it (and other culture war issues) to avoid there being any energy left for class issues to be acknowledged. Because if those needs ever got met, there wouldn't be the underlying sense of resent to redirect and weaponize

Addendum: agree they absolutely won't stop and will continue to find more issues and more minorities to go after. In that sense, 100% not a distraction. The agenda from on high is absolutely capitalist anglo christo fascism.
