The fact that Ennio Morricone’s ONLY Academy Award (except the honorary one) was for the Hateful Eight in 2016 is insane to me.
His two greatest scores, “Once Upon a Time in the West” and “The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly” weren’t even nominated.

And the way Leone had Morricone work on the score before filming allowed Leone to create what I can only describe as a ballet of camera and actor direction in those films.
And the Academy is often guilty of “it’s your turn” awards giving. Like with Jamie Lee Curtis winning over Stephanie Hsu in Everything Everywhere All at Once.
Both films have an iconic sweeping long take with a haunting melody sang by Ella Del’Orso, and every moment of those scores are dripping with intensity that is mirrored on the actor’s faces.
Not even a nomination.
