When he was 11, his father was given the living of Croft-on-Tees, a church dating to the 12th century. and the whole family moved to the spacious rectory. The church though is best known as the possible source of some of Lewis Carroll's literary characters including the grinning Cheshire cat.

Correction of my mistake here: It's not "The Jabberwocky". The poem "Jabberwocky" is a poem about the Jabberwock.
