Staying with books. On 29 August 1883 the first Carnegie library financed by Andrew Carnegie opened in Dunfermline. It was the first of 2,509 such libraries built around the world. Designed by Henry T. Hare Harrogate Library opened on 24 January 1906, initially using an "indicator charging" system
