Guy Fawkes was born around this date in 1570 in Stonegate, York. He was baptised at St Michael le Belfrey (below) on 16 April. His father, a Church of England lawyer, died when Guy was eight. His mother later married a Catholic, which, along with Guy’s schooling at St Peter’s in York, likely
