My top tips: (I have completed several gold stake runs)
1) Don't waste money on planet + tarot cards.
2) Always grab jokers that level up (i.e spare trousers) especially early and build around that.
3) Always make sure you have one chips card, even at the expense of one malt card (esp Runner).
4) Try to always aim for straights, flush, etc. You're better off playing bad hands aiming for those, than getting two pairs, etc
Caveat to all these esp 1: Unless you're building a specific run type.
Tip that helped me get my first wins: try not to spend very much at the start. The goal is to get to $25 as fast as possible so you get the max $5 interest bonus each round, so just kinda ignore buying anything other than your starting jokers. Big-money moves later on = more freedom shaping your run
Also if you have The throwback Joker skipping blinds is a great strategy for increasing mults particularly at higher stakes where increasing money is less of an incentive.
hmm to be fair, there are lots of exceptions and there is no “correct” way to play the game. So, sure, do what you want! Throwback or a good skip tag are totally valid.
But, I wouldn’t recommend skipping rounds until the player really knows what they’re doing. (1/2)
Playing each round increases your econ (gold cards/reward/interest/etc), helps scale certain jokers, gives you a chance to use seals (blue/purple), gives you a chance to use lingering tarot cards, lets you know how you’re scoring, and gives you new shops with more options to choose from ^ ^
Nah if you already got your econ going and interest maxed, it's better to just play the game than skipping, a round and a shop is way more valuable than just a random negative joker
On higher stake it's even better to just play your rounds, its easy to get like $20+ from just the round alone, the only time it's good to skip is for an investment tag in early ante, if you're facing the pillar with a low amount of cards in your deck, or for orbital tag if you're struggling for lvl
So far.
Disagreeing with Ben Jayes point about skipping rounds.
Sometimes it's better to skip, especially on negative Jokers and Spectral Cards.
Best choices are good initial jokers who give a lot of multiplier and chips.
K Q J > A because of duplication tarot
Try to get a seal card early and copy
"Best choices are good initial jokers who give a lot of chips and multiplier"
is meant for early game, later you want to have a good level on Hand Types (planet cards) combined with sealed/guilded/bonus cards copied again and again.
And a lot of multiplier jokers so you multiply on multiply
Ideally, you'd want: an econ joker, a mult joker that scales, a chip joker that scales. Find a good synergy with the 2 extra jokers, and you got a run ^^
I won a run buy having the bull and the rocket launcher (one gives $$ the other moves chips based on $$)
Don't be afraid to treat hands like extra discards to fish for your REALLY good hands that will win you the round instead of trying to nickel and dime up with low scoring non synergistic hands
Pick a hand you can consistently get like pairs. Focus on multi jokers and have one that's a x2 or x3. Only open packs if you have a good economy and focus on glass cards. You'll get there!

2. Focus on playing 1 hand type and scaling that hand type with planet cards
3. Curate your deck so that you have better odds of drawing the cards you need (cut, duplicate, enhance cards, etc.)
4. Always check the boss blind + don’t skip rounds

Never is a bit strong but on higher stakes and early game negatives can be very handy.
