there are many factors
- the nature of the crime
- location (is there overcrowding?)
- good behavior
- credit for time served (during trial if there is one)

(👈🏾not a lawyer) You have a *possibility* of being paroled early in many cases at ~1/3-1/2 of a sentence unless you are sentenced with no possibility of parole (heinous crimes). Most people are paroled and didn't serve their full sentence.

Parole is being released early from prison but is complex and varies by state. If you commit crimes in prison, you likely won't be paroled. There's usually a committee hearing where victims or their loved ones can make statements in favor or against parole. You can be denied parole and try again.

Then when you're released "on parole" you are supervised by a parole officer, are required to have work or be looking for work and have limited freedoms. Jobs in the US can also discriminate based on criminal history and most do so it's hard for people with criminal records to find jobs.

It depends but mostly no. The state and any other stipulations the judge may add with the sentencing can change it. For example, if she got 1 year but eligible for parole after 3 months, then she'd only serve 3 months in jail but would do the remainder of the 9 months at home with supervision.

People potentially not serving the full sentence on one charge is why the court piles as many charges on you as possible so you could be breaking several laws just from one incident. An example is fighting. Even tho it's 1 fight, they'll hit you will assault and battery charges which they will stack

And don't have something in your hand, or then you'll be looking at assault, battery AND assault with a deadly weapon charges. That shit can pile up!
