With so many egoistic, weak, incompetent conservative, Republican men having major issues with their own masculinity, struggling so hard to conceive of and project some vision of manliness, no matter how dodgy, it seems a risky time to go with strong, highly qualified women, as a practical matter.

Not really. Don't get me wrong. I support strong, highly qualified women. They're just what we need. I'm just saying conservative, Republican men having issues with their masculinity will react with horror and concern. And there's a lot of people like that. Not unusual in the USA.
