California Independence Campaign faltered after its president, Louis Marinelli, revealed ties to Russia. Marinelli said in a lengthy message to supporters Monday that he is seeking permanent residence in Russia because of his "frustration, disappointment and disillusionment with the United States."
California gets a lot of its water from…. California. There’s big aquifers out in desert hot springs. Which, like the name implies, has hot springs. In the desert.
Please include New England, NY, NJ, Eastern PA, NOLA, Key West Memphis, Chicago, New Mexico, Oregon, Washington state..
Throw in Puerto Rico for good measure..
It can be done. Also need 1. Rewrite the CA constitution (not a problem if this passes) , and 2. Rewrite the US constitution. That sounds impossible, but Republicans are already trying to do that. If Cal-Exit passes, that kick-start Article V.
But, I assume that CA runs a country, which isn't that different from what we're doing now - add in banking and defense. Remember, CA is a net contributor with a $4T economy. Way more control over spending, economic development, education, healthcare, civil rights...
Optimistic. Im fairly certain the new administration has little restraint for violence concerning the issue. They need our money and the federal government has the monopoly on violence. We gotta do that math.
Are you referring to the CSG's? They are wanting the convention to amend the constitution about federal funding. None of this had anything to do with suceeding the United States. A convention /could/ be asked for amending anything in the constitution but afaict none are for leaving the union.
But such a convention could amend the Constitution by nullifying the 14th Amendment (already under attack by Trump).
This amendment has been interpreted as outlawing secession.
Told my mom, she would move to California if this were to happen(currently in Racist Florida trying to figure out an exit)
We are from Hawaiʻi and Hawaiʻi would probably do what California does
Trumpistan can lease military bases in Hawaiʻi,California etc or we can lease to real Allies (NATO)
#2: It reads overall similar to the vers. I read earlier. I suggest mostly residents read it thoroughly least later. Then, update your reply/view on it. Context is a game changer usually.
As much as I love this, it's unconstitutional. It's not an option to leave. We gotta figure this stuff out. Let's fight fire with fire though. Provide feds with only minimum tax to cover the military and withhold the rest.
While I don't see it realistically being able to happen with this administration, I like the idea. I also want to know how we can get WA & OR to join and make Cascadia (there's already been a proposed name)? We have water up north. We could have a high speed rail between popular cities. I wish.
"Should the measure pass, a commission to report on California’s viability as an independent country would be created. Legally seceding the country would require a constitutional amendment, which would require the approval of Congress and 38 states."

California. The Hetch hetchy reservoir.
Plus the lost revenue California gives to the country.
The other way people can help is to try and only buy from California businesses. It helps local employment and state taxes.
As a state we give a lot to the Federal Government, buy from local businesses instead of multi-national companies like Amazon, Target, etc.
Throw in Puerto Rico for good measure..

CA has plenty of negotiating leverage - the Republicans want an Article V convention and they need CA (and a few other blues) to agree.
The people vote, like Brexit, and you figure a way forward.
"Legally seceding the country would require a constitutional amendment, which would require the approval of Congress and 38 states."
Otherwise, I'm afraid things will likely become terrifyingly violent.
Here's a quick summary.

I would seriously consider moving back.
