It's basically a free fully featured web version of Photoshop. Not sure if it's open source but it rocks!
Photopea is free to use and very powerful--for the average user, I'd recommend it over GIMP--but sadly, not open source.
And for raster or vector drawing, I'd recommend Krita or Inkscape over GIMP, respectively; GIMP is all right as an image editor, but far from a Photoshop replacement.
True, but I'd rather save piracy as a last resort for when there are both no free alternatives and I find it unethical to give money to the developer in question, and fortunately, the first case isn't true here.
