I haven't played any Dragon Age games, I heard Origins is pretty good, but what to expect from them?

Origins is a dark fantasy freeform RPG that you make plenty of choices to decide the outcomes of characters, quests and the main story. Plus it's a combination of action and CRPG gameplay. Every game after that just slowly move away from that.

Tbh I'm suprised Bioware still around. Three flops in a row is not a good look and honestly I'm not convinced Mass Effect 5 going to be any different

I totally agree with your point about Western AAA heading towards a crash sooner rather than later. The production times and budgets are becoming more and more unsustainable.

If GTA6 does well, companies will inevitably try and use it as justification for even more expensive future projects.

As a huge fan of Bioware of the 2010s, and a huge ME nerd, i have 0 expectations for ME5. I wasn't invested in DA post Origins, the direction from 2 onward never clicked with me. And Bioware is only now in name. Maybe ME5 will prove me wrong, but won't hold my breath for it.

Loved Bioware around that period too when I got into Dragon Age and Mass Effect but ever since Inquisition, it just been disappointment after disappointment. I'm tired. I have 0 faith in Bioware. The company is dead because of poor management and EA interfering in every single game.

It was a lot of dissapointments before that too, ME 3 was a huge one for me... Inquisition was supposed to be their return to glory, but with so much talent leaving in between games it was never the same as in the glory days of KotOR, DAO, and ME

Me3 had quite a few issues on launch, which were narrative related, and they did address it in the dlcs (even though the ending still boils down to R/G/B).

Most of the old school AAA giants are just dead now creatively speaking.

But there are studios like Larian/Supergiant, so not all hope is lost

I remember playing DAO and feeling like that game was a great spiritual successor to NWN in a lot of ways. It's a shame that Veilguard couldn't meet its goals, but I feel like EA put a level of pressure that couldn't possibly be met given the overall development timeline of the fourth Dragon Age.

This game was in some sort of development since around 2015, and supposedly had a budget of between $150-200M. I'm glad they pivoted away from live-service, as I think that would've been catastrophically bad. I haven't yet had the chance to play Veilguard, since I need to finish DAI first.

The right-wing culture grifters will look at what's happened as a victory, which of course makes me sick. The reality is that good people lost their jobs. People who just want to make games for others to enjoy. That's never a good thing, and we seem set for a AAA gaming crash in the west.

Interesting read. I agree with you. I wish it was good. Didn't get it because it looked like slop. My friend streamed a lot of it for me. I didn't like the writing and combat. Friend liked it but it was absolutely not my jam. Could tell it was in hell dev and made to be a live service. Hated the UI.

It is absolutely rough out here. I rarely buy AAA games anymore and that decision is reinforced regularly by the poor decision making of these companies nowadays. I feel like we're witnessing the death throes of a dying industry. It'll come back stronger, but these megacorps won't go down easy

The whole situation is a mess, no doubt, but I think the people who bought it are the least to blame here. We all have series we want to support no matter what.
If anything it makes me appreciate your perspective far more than the right wingers parroting how it sucks over the same few screenshots.

I gave it a chance because I loved Inquisition and waited 10 years for a follow up. I really wanted to support it as a fan and form my own opinions despite the backlash it gotten since it was reannounced as Veilguard.

The right wingers being so obsessed with Taash is definitely not a good look but that's so surface value. Veilguard had so many issues it faced from the original pitch to the last update of the game. People just think the game bad because of woke and that's not critical thinking at all.

Yep, there’s very little thinking at all that goes into it outside of how it can be pushed for the narrative.
If Baldur’s Gate 3 had been just slightly worse they’d be doing the same thing.
It’s pathetic and miserable for everyone, and a big part of why I hardly ever touch the other site these days.
