Those by linguists, particularly, are not peer-reviewed publications and this allows them to basically write anti-sociolinguistic claims as if language belonged to them and not to the speakers. These claims are full of (heterocis male) privilege, and also linguicism towards speakers from the South.

They are, for instance, convinced that gender inclusive language does not work in Italian because of the complex gender agreement (articles, nouns, adj, pp) but THAT'S NOT TRUE. They base their claims on their ideas, a systematic investigation would show how wrong they are.

They say that gender inclusive language is ideological, disregarding that their positions are very ideological too (just on the other side). They give interviews to far-right newspapers. Their books are the only ones that emerge in relation to the topic, cos they are deemed big names in linguistics.

Sometimes, the same happens for those in favour of gender-inclusive language. And, I am not saying that this topic should only be debated in academia (i cite all types of books), but when looking for literature, to compare results, to build an interesting debate, I feel it is hard.

it is mostly THEIR voice, there are no links to the wonderful literature that has emerged on the topic in the last few years, and that explain much better what this linguistic phenomenon is about.

There are some brilliant phd students and post-docs that do not receive enough attention for their work, their investigations of gender-inclusive language. I always try to amplify their voice, as they are the ones who come to conferences, present substantiated arguments and results.
