This is one of the few AI things that I am ok with. As long as it’s not being used to train an AI model or some evil reason but helping to summarize a meeting isn’t such a bad idea.

Especially when you have short art span :p

this is big under use in my org too, i read through their stuff and i think its just anthropic and openai under the hood.

i wonder if it'll kinda start becoming, everyone camera off ignoring the meeting and waiting for the summary

I'm generally less worried about these sorts of tools that are doing transcription and light summaries, especially where humans aren't doing it at all or it means someone can't focus on the actual content.

My fear remains that overreliance on summary tools means humans lose nuance where it's needed

It’s a double edged sword imo - recall is higher when we write it down ourselves, but having an offer in full written transcription can be a life saver

That’s never been the case for me. All through school I never took notes. High school, university, never worked for me. I’d always miss what was being said as I wrote notes if I tried. I found that just paying attention and asking questions worked way better for me. Graduated top of my class.

I found that my handwriting was messy enough (left handed) that I sought/was allowed to use my laptop for note-taking

I learned quickly how to type while looking at the slides on the projector, and I’d expand my notes after asking questions

Still have most of them saved to my cloud storage

My school was nice. Most of the professors released the slide decks ahead of the lectures so I could follow along or even read ahead to prime myself for an upcoming topic once the content of a slide was understood. Some would include the slides but leave blanks on them to fill in, which also worked.

I think there's also a feature for it to poke you if it hears your name mentioned. the meeting recaps are pretty good, if a bit wordy. I still prefer human taken notes but the AI ones are very useful

Work sent out a message about those note taking AI bots (I think mainly third party) that they are likely a security and record retention risk. Even had to mention not sticking around after meetings in calls talking shit because that can be picked up and accidentally sent with the meeting notes lol

That last part is a good point! For the first part, I guess I’m assuming that it being enabled means they want us to use it. They recently said in an all hands “Use AI more!” and I face-palmed more than a little bit.

They actually warned that they were being automatically added without people knowing. Sudden emails with meeting summaries being sent to people attending a meeting that they did not ask for.
