Been tailoring my fits since my teens because I'm built like a grasshopper. It's fun and rewarding. Also-- It's harder to find *anything* in 100% cotton anywhere....

This jacket I made for Sunny. It’s a 15oz raw denim with a thick wool lining. This was my first go at it and I’ve gotten cleaner stitches since, but I’m really happy with the outcome.

Then I tried my hands at more complicated seams. This is done with run and fell. That’s where the seam is rolled over itself and topstitched. This over shirt was made in 12oz canvas

And tonight I finished a brave undertaking. I’m SO GLAD my machine (a 1940s Singer 301a I got for $8 at good will) could punch through this material. It’s also run and fell seams made with 26oz canvas. It’s THICK!
The pockets are pretty cool. Hand warmer sides with separate pocket slits at the top..

It’s been a busy two weeks! Needless (get it) to say, I’m hooked (get it)

I’m gonna bang out a bunch of those shirts and skirts. The skirt I bet I could make a lot of in one day. I wanna try and elevate the design and also use run and fell stitches…those are may favorite currently. Hard, but clean.

It’s so great! Getting clean straight stitches takes practice but you really do start seeing progress quickly. And learning the machine and how to get what you want out of it too. But I think you’re gonna love it. And there’s great home classes too once your feet are in the pool.

Very nice! As another man who sews and has sewed for a living, I'm impressed. If you ever want to dig into making your own pants pattern and pants from scratch I recommend the book How to Make Men's Clothes by Jane Rhinehart. Old book but can get it used on Amazon.

I told my mom I wanted her sewing machine for my Christmas(I have to go and get it), she hasn’t used it in years. I learned to sew in high school, we were one of the last classes it was available to.

Great job! I learned to sew on a Singer Featherweight from 1946. I still use it! I hemmed a jumpsuit last week on it. Great machine. My son started sewing on it a few years ago. He’s made 2 cloaks recently. Both fully lined. More people should sew. With Joann’s closing we have no fabric.

Honestly you're really lucky you had a machine to bite through it, my day to say machine wouldn't dare. I'd have to use the heavy duty one I have stashed away for just leather and canvas!
