Except when I watch them grab a baby cardinal that fledged 30 secs before and tear it apart in front of the cardinal parents. They are hysterical and desperate; then watch the same thing happen to their only other chick.
I know. Hawks regularly raid my feeders. This was particularly awful to witness having watched the cardinal babies develop up close. I'm prepared if the parents nest in the same tree again. I have fake dead crows. I experimented with them last summer and they're very effective for a few days.
