Imagine giving up nuclear weapons to be guaranteed independence and sovereignty within existing borders and then being raided by the country that took the nukes while the other parties hold back on support.

If we, as the West, had provided Ukraine with the necessary support that we had contractually assured them, Ukraine would be in a different situation entirely today
On the russian side for sure. Your assumption implicates that Putin is holding back which i find unlikely due do him having to hire soldiers from NK to defend his own territory.
