The math of density and contagions should be the opposite (which is why this behavior happened - hopes to kill ppl in denser areas). But countermeasures were able to overcome the difference.

I'd always assumed this to be the case. So I'm having trouble understanding "death rates" being higher. Lower death rates should = longer life expectancy, no?

Life expectancy is when half the people have died. I don't consider it a good measure.

Ah, that's probably the gap in my thinking.

So we could simply have high LE and a high death rate if lots of children die but the survivors live a long time? I've heard that explanation for low LE in Victorian times - if you made it out of childhood you had a decent chance of a longer life.

The urban centers they are talking about are the central city slum areas. The definition used here includes the whole city excluding suburbs. I have trouble drawing a line as I drive through but beyond a line problem there is a big difference.

The major COVID factor after the first year, without vaccine, is Evangelical refusal to vaccinate. They tend to be more rural and religion is not a census variable so measuring them together is a bit of a problem.
