Pendragon by Chaosium. You're knights of King Arthur. Every session is a year in-game, so your characters age, have families, die, and are replaced by their heirs. The personality traits and passions ask what's important to you like no other game.

It makes a huge difference when death is a real possibility but it's not the end of the game. When does your character decide a risk's not worth it, and when do they decide to sacrifice themselves for a greater cause?

I really like the latest edition of the Star Wars #TTRPG (as published by FFG/Edge Studio), though I really wish they would support it in some meaningful way.

Also a big fan of Forbidden Lands by Free League... and Call of Cthulhu by Chaosium... and Fantasy AGE by Green Ronin... and...

My fav is Savage Worlds. Any genre, skills+feats not classes, use all the dice, dice explode, players get story-altering tokens.

It has rules for non-combat encounters (like heists or dramatic tasks) but I'm on the lookout for others. Mostly I don't want to learn new rules for different adventures.

I like that the focus is shifted away from combat.

It prevents the murder hobo urges, and makes you think way more about how to approach a situation cleverly, and understanding what you've brought with you.

Mythras by The Design Mechanism, tons of genres now, pulp planetary romance, supers, vampires, and historical settings like Mythic Constantinople. Variant of BRP with plenty of tactical options to keep combat fast and interesting.
