Very unlikely, of course, because they'll choose a very safe riding. But if there was ever a time for the NDP and Greens to swallow their pride and not run a candidate so it's just PP against the Liberal with no left-of-spectrum vote splitting, this is it. Because if PP loses this one, he's gone.
I thought I read somewhere than a CPC Edmonton newly elected MP has already offered? So it must be the not already LPC or NDP Edmonton riding? Haven't seen it confirmed though of course, that'd be big news though I'm sure
It’s a previously NDP riding with a strong, well-liked NDP candidate. The Cons only took it this time because some NDPers voted Liberal. I don’t think that Poilievre will want to run there, because I think he could easily lose to Desjarlais.
He might not but I think I read Diotte is only days away from qualifying for the MP pension which is why he's the obvious choice. If Poilievre does run there LPC should not run a candidate
The LPC will still run a candidate. I think Desjarlais could still win even with a Liberal candidate on the ballot, because there will be less of a “voting for the PM” factor with the general election already decided, and Singh having already stepped down.
Yeah, I was only in the riding a few times while I was there, but the support for Blake in the central parts of the riding is unwavering. That would be a terrible choice of a riding for Poilievre to pick.
I'm sure they'll be very strategic on where they run him, and not just because someone offered. I hope Carney takes the max amount of time to call a by-election for wherever it ends up being 🙊
