what scares me the most abt this is the people who legitimately see this as an infringement on “having an imagination” people who genuinely think that without profiting off of others’ art, there’s no art scene or creative freedom left for them

yea, they qould like to get some money from other ppl work, without permission for using their work, and without paying them. Imagination ? typing in AI every single shit is not imagination
takes the exact tone of “comedy is legal” as if getting public backlash for ethical reasons is the same as actually being disenfranchised. ppl like this and like elon are desperate to play the victim because they wanna stick it to the “woke left”
theyre trying to build their own world of art because they’ve come to the misanthropic conclusion that they don’t belong with the rest of the world writ large. they think of themselves as so exceptional that they need their own culture and history. they’re really just mortified of failure
this is why i think that the tool is irrelevant to the discussion. it’s the attitude that compels these people to lift any style they see with no permission, it’s the attitude that grifts to people who feel pushed out by the hyper capitalization of the art world. it all comes back to the humans
ai isn’t the death of human art, humans are also behind every single element of ai that we hate. don’t let them divorce themselves from the same humanity they wanna pretend is extinct
i say “don’t let them”… they cannot divorce themselves from that. when they hit a wall, they’ll hop to the next trend, leaving whatever bullshit for the people who actually care about art to deal with while they take the money and run.. that’s the thing that scares me the most
this is apparently a fake cease and desist! literally all they care about is making YOU mad. revenge for being cringe or annoying or not letting them sit at the lunch table. that’s IT. i can’t stand engaging on any deeper level w this shit than they do lol. humiliate these ppl
imo it's frustrating to see an artist who like, perfectly copies a creator's style and makes that "their thing," but even that's preferable to "I typed names and prompts into a machine and it spits something out"
not to be the person who’s too woke.. but this is fully an attitude thing too. the difference i see here is not the work that went in to it, but rather one party’s readiness to humble themself vs the other’s complete aversion to it
1. Every LLM aka AI is different.
2. Not every AI way trained on "stolen" art.
3. In art school, they teach you to study other artists, art, and recreate it.
4. Shapes are not private property.
5. Is literature not a form of art?
I agree however that AI and the use of LLM needs to have LAWS
oh yeah i totally agree. my whole point is to divorce contempt of popular generative tools and their glaring pitfalls from the greater sphere of the tech itself
i know very little about this stuff as a whole, but this is why im highlighting what feels like the infinitely bigger attitude problem w the people who evangelize these tools as ~art killers~ or incorrectly assume that art needs democratization to begin with
I am in 3d Computer Animation BS degree program at Full Sail University. We use Adobe products for our class work. Adobe has AI in most all of its programs but it helps you make your own unique art. Adobe says it does not train its AI on "stolen" art. My school also has a view point about this to.
The gist is, If I used AI to copy 1:1 your profile pic ... that's stolen art. but if I use AI to maybe use the same colors in a different art work... that is not consider stolen. It is not the AI it is the person using AI to steel someone else work.
That's the "guns don't kill people, people do" argument. There are ethics at work with any powerful tool. I guarantee you for every artist using AI to create a colour palette, hundreds are using it to create Miyazaki images without paying Miyazaki.
Making profits? Prepare to defend against countless similar artists. Making satire? All courts must defend your right to make that art until you make a profit off that specific piece. That is why satire is often pro-bono, for logic not just the seen kindness.

AI creators get the wall
