I've been working on distress tolerance techniques in therapy and one of the things I've instituted is to eat a few Sour Patch Kids and I am both tickled and weirdly disappointed that it works.

My autistic kiddo uses extreme sour candies when he feels like he’s about to meltdown. It tricks the amygdala into giving control back to the forebrain. If you can recognize the signs, it’s a good life hack against anxiety.
I want to note for folks seeing this that you do have to see it as an opportunity to distract your mind and ground yourself in physical sensation. Bring some focus to it. It won't fix everything but it can break a thought spiral.
