It doesn’t seem *that* complicated. But MS, Apple, Google, YouTube, Nintendo, Sony, Epic Games, Mojang, etc. would all have to buy in to a 3rd party service or protocol that embeds control with parents that it not fragmented across their various services.

You have to parent
Make the kids understand personal responsibility.
Make them hand back the devices when times up
But you can have technical solutions to help. They are already there but, as described, patchy and annoying.

We should all drive safely but I’m grateful for speed limits, seatbelts, air bags, child seats and crumple zones.

There are many technical, social and legal solutions that help parenting that don’t mean we are not parenting too. That’s all I’m asking for here.

I think where controls obviously work and have no downsides like the things you stick in plug sockets, it’s a no brainer
it’s a very different story with age and region limited content, because the side effects (eg privacy) are much worse and the controls are fairly simple to avoid
