The worst part of defunding the department of education children and teens with disabilities and special needs will suffer in public schools and private schools nationally.

That’s not just “the worst part” - that’s the goal. It’s EXACTLY like 1930s Germany - they see persons with disabilities as less than human, but slightly above people of color.
They aren’t, but my youngest received services for dyslexia, auditory processing and ADHD. The principal is on the correct side of all of this. I guess we got lucky. She now is a junior taking AP classes.
My daughter went to Catholic school. They frequently kicked out kids who struggled academically or with behaviors. The only kids that I know of who were allowed to stay, were fairly mild and belonged to prominent church families. If the parents gave $$$ to the church, the school made accommodations.
First off, we are Mets fans too, in Indiana. This was a Catholic community school with an excellent principal. They kicked out behavior issues, but not academic.
My daughter’s school did both. They get thousands in voucher money and make kids do admission “testing”to see if they’re a “good fit”. If they struggle later, they are only given a certain amount of time to bring their grades up. The class ahead of my daughter’s lost 2/3 of the students.
Our son with CP is in Catholic schools with several kids with dyslexia. But what they don't have is disruptive autism kids sucking up the resources. Hate it came to that, but in a triage based world, our son was getting nothing from public school. The IA has to focus on the disruptive kids first.
And for your information, disruptive autism kids literally need assistance for daily living activities. Although your own child has special needs those kids need the most support. Count yourself among the lucky ones. I for one thank my lucky stars my kids aren’t afflicted with autism.
In WA the state funds education reasonably well, but when the state allocated more to distracts, it all went to pay raises instead of increasing staffing. District tried to shame us out of IEP support several times bc our son wasn't being disruptive so they couldn't allocate any limited IAs to him.
We should tax billionaires AND reform schools so they support all kids. WA has 4th highest teacher pay in nation, more money alone won't solve things. We've never had to fight for him to be included in private school, it is night and day different. That is damning for public schools in my view.
We pulled him after they refused to send an IA to help him on a field trip since mobility is his support need. He came home in tears after falling because he couldn't navigate the unknown space, and there was no IA to help so he was way behind the class panicking about being left behind.
I have a hard time believing they sent your mobility challenged child on a field trip unassisted. That’s a lawsuit waiting to happen. All you have to do is threaten to call a lawyer. My kids are in public school, can’t speak for your state but in mine they take IEP’s seriously.
They will not suffer in private schools because private schools will shuttle them off to public schools. Lack of funding in public schools is where they will suffer. Pure insanity.
I worked in public schools until recently. We never had enough resources to properly serve all students who qualified. And many others weren’t identified as qualified but should have been because of their traumatic lives. They all deserve a fair chance. Trump doesn’t care.
My kids went to a private school. My daughter had absence seizures. When her medication needed to be adjusted she would have 200 a day. I simply asked the teacher if see could send home all her work for the day so I could go over it.
My daughter would ask for help because of course she would miss some of the instructions and I was told I should put her public school because they were equipped to give her the special needs she required. That's how important public schools are. I did and she flourished in the public school.
My autistic grandson is super smart. He has a vocabulary of probably a thousand words but he can't make sentences. I hope they don't end his schooling.
Same with ruining Social Security for the disabled. What happens to physically & mentally disabled who have no family money or have outlived their family? It's inhumane & grotesque.
I have a twin autistic grandson starting kindergarten in the fall. I’m scare to death he will be so left behind from his brother and will cause irreparable harm to them both!
I worked as a Special Education teacher for many years, first in Ohio before it turned MAGA, and then in North Carolina. They public schools in Ohio were way beyond the ones in North Carolina. I had well over 60 students, sometimes over 100, to write IEPs and MFEs for. All I did was work.
I am a special education teacher and over the years I knew a lot of families that were MAGA. A lot of it had to do with abortion. They felt that letting women have a right to choose, was somehow an attack on their own kids with special needs.
Well, THEY don't have to have an abortion. Why ruin it for others? MAGA/PROJECT 2025 doesn't want white babies aborted because they fear becoming a minority.
It’s weird, but they honestly took giving women a right to choose personally, especially families with kids with Down Syndrome and other genetic syndromes. They totally ignored that Republicans wanted to rob them of special ed, Medicaid and SSD funding as well as other things their families needed.
Intentional cruelty is the point. Trump is devoid of any sense of empathy. That's why he keeps Stephen Miller around: to find someone in need so they can prove just how evil they can be.
Someone over on Facebook today (which I rarely visit) said there's no need for a department of education because it never does anything anyhow. Some people's kids. 🙄
My MAGA neighbors who have special needs grandchildren say the same thing.. we have done certain things with my sped kids that helped.. do they ask what we did.. never cause we are stupid
Private schools have been harming specials needs children for years regardless. In Florida the charter schools specialize in attracting children with disabilities only to neglect them once their funding hits.
Depends on where you are. We aren't religious but our son with CP was entirely falling through the cracks in public. They could not adapt or be flexible at all. Pulled him for a small catholic middle school, and he's now a HS freshman on honor roll taking Geometry. Best thing we've ever done for him
That’s a pretty rare case. Where are you located? Here in Florida there are countless scammy “private” schools. Granted I live in a deep red state that doesn’t value public education.
WA, we have the 4th highest teacher pay and very few charter schools. But Seattle Schools are sort of a poster child that well funded progressive schools can still be a complete mess. Since well before the pandemic SPS has had some of the highest private school opt-out rates in nation w/o charters.
Interesting, however I would venture to guess that your worst public schools are leaps and bounds above Florida’s. I’m a teacher and have multiple ESE classes. Our coteachers are split between multiple subjects and often have to teach a class of their own due to shortages.
I am really mad that our schools failed us but have lots of sympathy for the teachers. So hard to solve the chaos in the schools, but opting away from the behavioral issues and into a smaller/calmer setting basically solved our son's needs without even needing aids.
Fuck man, he's in it for the tax breaks and bribes. What you're witnessing is the BIGGEST robbery in history. He could give 2 fucks about anything or anyone else.
In solidarity I’m asking for the help of all who are opposed Trump regime polices to place the message of “Lock them up”, in as many places where Trump’s name or any of his regimes names are posted for whatever purpose in protest of their policies. We need a digital voice in great numbers now!
Many special needs kids won’t ever live independently. Their public education is a taxpayer investment. If these kids don’t get FAPE, many will require a more restrictive residential setting which is costly to taxpayers. However, it appears that they want to zero out residential care also.
Nazi's murdered kids and adults that had disabilities. What do you think this Nazi and his handler - orange Hitler thinks of kids with disabilities? Orange Hitler said he doesn't want to "see" any one like that. He doesn't want Americans with physical disabilities around him. It makes him look bad.
It's never about Americans who need help. It's what he thinks makes him "look" good. News FLASH - There is nothing he can do to make himself look better. Not morally not physically. Too far gone. Not worth saving.
Everyone in schools will not get what they all deserve. I won't only effect special needs students. People will lose jobs to pay for required services that special needs students need because it is law to ensure that they have appropriate education. Rest of students will have less teachers to teach
Charter schools aren’t required to provide accommodations for special needs kids. A local charter school in Cochise County Arizona hid the children and their assistants in a back room during open house. It’s going to be much worse. States must sue!
Dear United States Military, you are sworn to uphold the constitution and defend the US against enemies both foreign and domestic. The GOP and Trump administration have been violating our laws and the constitution, siding with out enemies and working to weaken our security. Where the fuck are you??
A man who would stand at a podium and mock someone with disabilities does not give one-care about supporting children with special needs. He sees disabilities as weakness. Natural selection. Let them die out. There is not a word low enough for our President.
Except they WON’T be in private schools because those schools can choose their students and they don’t want kids with disabilities. Unless, of course, those “private” schools are “special” schools…
Like pre-1980. I am mortified for what is to come.
The theme of the Trump II administration is “Cruelty”. So many children, persons with disabilities, seniors and workers as well as those unemployed are being hurt by Trump. His priority is to make the most wealthy people even more wealthy.

FACT
"Christians" would almost certainly disagree.
Any non white person with any disabilities or special needs is S.O.L.
That's what the morons voted for. UGH!
Next time vote DEMOCRAT !
They are Flooding The Zone, as promised w/out explanation of plans or goals on fluid timelines
Everyone is suffering. We need to care about others harmed even when it's not directly hurting us this time
It's not just their education that will suffer. These families receive Medicaid (threatened), social security (threatened), and SNAP (threatened).
It's hard to feel sorry for them.
If there are and they are voting with Trump they are being a traitor to their own family.
And this MAGA movement has eugenics baked into it.
