That's what I'm used to seeing on the few I've ridden places. I've seen some with the things on top (hi Denver!) but never actually ridden one to see if it's constant or if it switches back and forth between powering methods.

Alstom's system was introduced in 2003 and CAF's in 2011 so this is pretty new territory for light rail that people can walk across (rather than heavy rail with an electrified 3rd rail)
You can also do what Newcastle did and the trains just grab the energy from overhead at stations without the need for overhead wires beyond the stations.
Yep battery powered Trams & Trains are the future. As well as regenerative braking that puts power back into the battery, charging at each stop means they can do away with expensive overhead wires.

It transports too many people! Do shops really want lots of people buying their stuff? They'd have to employ more workers, make more money, and we all know that more money leads to more problems.
With cars, shops can only be visited by a few people which keeps those problems away!

There is no space for cars, which means if you actually do need say, a van or a small pickup for work, you can't live here. It would also be a problem for emergency vehicles, movers, garbage trucks, construction vehicles, etc. etc.
Why would we bother with something inefficient as that? Several tons of wear and tear individually along with an absolutely massive size blueprint? If cars want to have space then they better be ready to be charged for the harm they do to the public infrastructure
cool, none of those are cars actually, if you are talking about service vehicles then they can go on the same wide street way as the bikes. we could also move more to the cab over engine KEI truck type vehicles for a lot of it if space is an issue. most of Japan's roads are the size of alleyways.
An alley sized road is fine, in a city with good public transport car traffic would be the exception rather than the rule, but it should still have a dedicated right of way for road vehicles. I don't think sharing a stroad is good for bikers, because drivers can be maniacs.
only if you allow them to be, the amount of actually required motor vehicles on the road is not nearly as large as you might think especially if you got the commuters out of the way.

I'd 100% live in a city that has trams and bikes primarily with arcade buildings.
